The 2005 ABAQUS Austria Users' Conference

Sep 27-28, 2005 in Graz

Background

Whether you're a long-time user or new to ABAQUS, you shouldn't miss our annual regional meeting. This one-day event focuses on important developments and innovative uses of the ABAQUS product suite. You'll have the chance to preview new capabilities, provide feedback to ABAQUS staff and network with your engineering peers.

The social event on the evening of Sep 27 gives you the opportunity to meet colleagues of the ABAQUS user family in a relaxed atmosphere at the Schlossberg in the center of Graz.

User Presentations

User technical presentations are a highlight of the meeting. If you are interested in sharing your ABAQUS experience, please e-mail an abstract or PowerPoint presentation for consideration to abaqusuc2005@abaqus.at before Aug 19, 2005.

Presentations should describe novel applications of ABAQUS to important and challenging design problems. We have limited time slots available for speakers, so we recommend you submit proposals early. We will waive the conference registration fee for speakers.

New ABAQUS Release

The meeting will also preview ABAQUS Version 6.6, which will ship in Q2 2006. Version 6.6 is a major release with scores of new features. Staff members from ABAQUS Headquarters USA and ABAQUS Europe will be in Graz to answer your questions concerning new capabilities of ABAQUS.

Pre-meeting Seminar

On Sep 27, we will conduct the following 1-day seminar:

“Modeling Fracture and Failure with ABAQUS” *
Fracture and failure modeling allows for product designs that maximize the safe operating life of structural components. ABAQUS offers many capabilities that enable fracture and failure modeling. This seminar provides a detailed discussion of these capabilities. During the seminar's lectures users will learn about:
  • Proper modeling techniques for capturing crack-tip singularities in fracture mechanics problems

  • Proper modeling techniques for finite-strain (nonlinear) fracture mechanics problems

  • Using ABAQUS/CAE to create meshes appropriate for fracture studies

  • Calculation of stress intensity factors and contour integrals around a crack tip

  • Material damage and failure models

  • Wear and erosion modeling

  • Simulating crack growth using cohesive elements

  • Simulating crack growth using VCCT for ABAQUS (VFA)

Well known capabilities such as the Contour Integral approach will be reviewed just very briefly while the emphasis will lie on newer features developed in V6.5. These include (i) Material Failure and Wear, (ii) Cohesive elements, and (iii) Virtual Crack Closure Technique (VCCT) for ABAQUS.

Participants will get the official lecture notes for the original 2-day course which include workshops. This enables the users to practice the workshops after the seminar.

This seminar is recommended for engineers with experience using ABAQUS.

* Seminar lecturer: Kingshuk Bose - Senior Development Engineer, ABAQUS Inc., Providence RI
